March 23, 2024, marks World Meteorological Day, with this year's theme being 'Climate Action Frontlines.' Chengdu University of Information Technology's National Meteorological Science (Popular Science) Cultural Park seized this opportunity to carry out a series of meteorological science popularization activities.

On the afternoon of March 17, the 2024 Meteorological Science Popularization Interpreter Contest was held in the park. Through a draw before the competition, the participants selected predefined meteorological instruments and the order of the competition. They then explained meteorological knowledge at the comprehensive meteorological observation field and the Atmospheric Detection Museum. In the end, six students were appointed as meteorological science popularization interpreters. The park annually holds this contest to train and select a new group of interpreters for the science popularization base. These interpreters participate in the daily management of the base and its science popularization open day activities.
On the morning of March 21, the School of Electronic Engineering (School of Atmospheric Detection) and the School of Atmospheric Sciences at Chengdu University of Information Technology jointly held a Science Popularization Open Day at the National Meteorological Science (Popular Science) Cultural Park. A total of 150 Young Pioneers from Shuangliu Experimental Primary School and Chengdu Shengfei Primary School participated in this event. Guided by meteorological science popularization volunteers, the students toured various attractions within the park, including the comprehensive meteorological observation field, the Atmospheric Detection Museum, the Fengyun-4 Satellite Ground Receiver, the 701 Radar Vehicle, the Meteorological Disaster VR Experience, the 24 Solar Terms Garden Party, and the Science Popularization Lecture Hall.

At 11 a.m. on March 21, Professor Liu Kun from the School of Electronic Engineering delivered a fascinating lecture on lightning knowledge at the university's International Conference Hall for all teachers and students participating in the event. Using vivid and engaging research videos, Professor Liu explained meteorological knowledge related to lightning, including the nature of lightning, the potential hazards it can bring, and how to prevent lightning disasters. Following the lecture, Professor Liu conducted an interactive Q&A session through a game format, which greatly encouraged student participation.

At the end of the event, Liu Yanyan, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Atmospheric Sciences, and Yang Yong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Electronic Engineering (School of Atmospheric Detection), awarded study certificates to student representatives from Shuangliu Experimental Primary School and Chengdu Shengfei Primary School. The event concluded with a group photo.

On March 24th, the Meteorological Science Popularization (Technology) Department of the School of Electronic Engineering, in collaboration with the Youth Volunteers Association of Chengdu University of Information Technology's School of Electronic Engineering, organized a meteorological science popularization event in the Jinhua Community. The theme of the event was 'Entering the Meteorology Classroom and Understanding Meteorological Knowledge.' During the event, participants experienced meteorological disaster VR, assembled small meteorological instruments, and attended a short lecture on the twenty-four solar terms. Through PPT presentations and hands-on assembly activities, meteorological knowledge was vividly explained to the children.
